And then I felt better

It is Thursday eve, as I am writing this. I am tired-I think it might have to do with all the rain, but that’s the rainforest for you. I’m eating a can of soup for dinner, about to watch the episode of Project Runway that I purchased because things do not stream in this country, and then I will probably melt into bed. But in the midst of my lazy evening, I wanted to share two brief anecdotes with you. They happened during my first 20 minute walk to work last week. Some of my IRL friends have already heard them, so forgive me if that is the case with you.

1. As I was walking to work, I was just looking at all the shops and houses and bakeries and everything on the side of the road, and I see this seagull symbol…and I’m like, “Hmm, what´s that?” and I look in the window…

and it is a HOLLISTER. In the middle of a random street in a small suburb in Costa Rica. Next to like…bars and a laundromat and tiny convenience stores. I would take a picture, but I still have no camera. I went to Costa Rican Costco today, but errythang was quite expensive. So we will see, mis amigitos.

2. As I was walking, I was being honked at by SEVERAL cars. I didn´t think that my grey jeans, toms, and audrey hepburn tshirt really warranted such attention. I thought maybe it was my blondieness, because that´s sort of rare here…  but I just kept walking and ignored it. And then, I was going to cross at an intersection and I turned around to look behind me to make sure no one was going to turn right and hit me…

and there was a girl walking behind me in fishnets and lingerie.

And then I felt better.

Note: Unfortunately, I have found that even without such a girl walking behind me, people still honk at me. But less so. Le sigh.  La sigh.

Congratulations on your new job in Central America! I am in Panama for 3 months for work as well, and I just started a blog, although I’ve never blogged before, so it’s not quite as lovely/user friendly as yours! And I’m not sure that it will work in Costa Rica, but I use http://www.ch131.com to stream all of the random TV shows that I watch normally on hulu. It works here, so I would give it a try in CR. Good luck, and I look forward to reading more about your adventures!

Thanks for that link! It was really helpful. How cool that you’re getting your PhD in Marine Science. I hope Panama is a wonderful experience for you!
